Oien'kón:ton – Hanging Tobacco
In 1990, the Kanien’kehá community of Kanehsatàke erected a barricade to prevent the expansion of a golf course onto their ancestral territory. A violent police intervention triggered a 78-day siege, also met with resistance from the sister community of Kahnawàke. The film recounts this action and celebrates the living legacy of the Warriors, guardians of an ancestral tradition of carrying a pouch of tobacco at their waist when defending their people.
