Surrender! The Sudden Death of Alvira, Pennsylvania

After its shutdown in January 1944, the former Pennsylvania Ordnance Works served as a storage depot for bombs and artillery, and a top-secret testing area for Army and Navy weapons projects, Ultimately, the much-abused facility's 8400 acres and upkeep became an albatross, and it was deactivated December 1950 and sold piecemeal.
